Dunedin is a city located in the Otago region on the South Island of New Zealand. It serves as the principal city of the region and ranks as its second-most populous urban center.

The name Dunedin is derived from Dùn Èideann, which is the Scottish Gaelic name for Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. As of June 2025, the city has an estimated population of 132,800, making it New Zealand’s seventh most populous metropolitan and urban area.
