Bridgeport is the most populous city in the U.S. state of Connecticut. As of 2020, its population was 148,654, ranking it as the fifth-most populous city in the New England region.
Located in eastern Fairfield County, Bridgeport serves as a port city situated at the mouth of the Pequonnock River on Long Island Sound. It is positioned approximately 60 miles (97 km) from Manhattan and 40 miles (64 km) from The Bronx.
The city is a key component of the Bridgeport–Stamford–Norwalk–Danbury metropolitan statistical area, which is the second largest metropolitan area in Connecticut. It also forms part of the Greater Bridgeport Planning Region and the broader greater New York metropolitan area.
