Durango, officially known as the Free and Sovereign State of Durango, is one of the 32 federal entities that comprise the nation of Mexico. It is located in the northwestern portion of the country.
The state has a population of 1,832,650, which ranks as the eighth lowest among Mexico's states. It also holds the distinction of having the second-lowest population density in Mexico, following Baja California Sur. The capital city is Victoria de Durango, which was named in honor of Guadalupe Victoria, the first President of Mexico.
