Denver is the capital and most populous city of the U.S. state of Colorado. It is officially a consolidated city and county located in the South Platte River valley on the western edge of the High Plains, situated just east of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains.
As of the 2020 census, Denver has a population of 715,522, making it the 19th-most populous city in the United States and the fifth-most populous state capital. The broader ten-county Denver metropolitan area houses 3.1 million residents and serves as the economic and cultural center of the Front Range Urban Corridor.
