Sonora, officially known as Estado Libre y Soberano de Sonora, is one of the 31 states that comprise the Federal Entities of Mexico, along with Mexico City. The state is geographically organized into 72 municipalities.
The capital and largest city of the state is Hermosillo, which is situated in its central region. Other significant urban centers within Sonora include Ciudad Obregón, Nogales, San Luis Río Colorado, and Navojoa.
