Rancho Cucamonga is a city located in San Bernardino County, California, in the United States. The area originated as a 13,045-acre Mexican land grant established in 1839. It was granted by Mexican governor Juan Bautista Alvarado to Tiburcio Tapia, who was known as a soldier, smuggler, and politician.
The original boundaries of the land grant extended easterly from San Antonio Creek to what is now Hermosa Avenue, and from today's Eighth Street toward the mountains. The territory of this historical grant formed parts of the modern-day cities of Rancho Cucamonga and Upland.
