Palo Alto is a charter city located in northwestern Santa Clara County, California, within the United States. It is situated as part of the San Francisco Bay Area and derives its name from El Palo Alto, a coastal redwood tree.
As of the 2020 United States census, the city had a population of 68,572 residents.
