Murrieta is a city located in southwestern Riverside County, California, within the United States. It sits at the center of the Los Angeles-San Diego mega-region and is bordered by Temecula to the south, Menifee and Wildomar to the north, and the unincorporated community of French Valley to the east.
The city is primarily a residential bedroom community that experienced significant growth between 2000 and 2010, recording a population increase of 133.7% during that decade. As of the 2020 census, its population was 110,949.
Murrieta takes its name from Juan Murrieta, a Californio ranchero who founded the town.
