Lake Elsinore is a natural freshwater lake located in Riverside County, California, within the United States. It is situated east of the Santa Ana Mountains and receives water from the San Jacinto River.
Originally known as Laguna Grande by Spanish explorers, the body of water was renamed to honor the town of Elsinore. This community was established on the lake's northeastern shore on April 9, 1888.
