Anchorage, officially known as the Municipality of Anchorage, is the most populous city in the U.S. state of Alaska. According to the 2020 census, the city had a population of 291,247, which represents nearly 40 percent of the state's total population.

The Anchorage metropolitan area, which encompasses both the city and the neighboring Matanuska-Susitna Borough, accounted for more than half of Alaska's population in 2020. Covering a land area of 1,706 square miles (4,420 square kilometers), it is the fourth-largest city in the United States by area.
