Buwenge is a town located in the Eastern Region of Uganda. It serves as a local community within the larger administrative framework of the country's eastern geography.
The town gained historical significance during regional administrative restructuring in 2009, when it was proposed as the headquarters for Jinja District. This proposal occurred while local leaders were lobbying the government to grant Jinja city status. However, when the district headquarters were officially relocated ten years later, Kagoma—a smaller community within Buwenge sub-county—was selected as the designated seat instead.
