A mazanka is a traditional type of rural dwelling found in Ukraine. These structures were historically widespread across Ukrainian territories and other regions with significant Ukrainian populations. The architectural style was primarily dictated by local natural conditions, specifically the scarcity of forests which limited the availability of wood for construction.
The houses were constructed using materials such as clay, raw brick, or brushwood. The walls were typically plastered with a mixture of clay and organic substances, such as manure, and were subsequently finished with a lime whitewash. Similar structures were also built in the Caucasus, where they were referred to as turluks.
