Nizhyn is a city located in the Chernihiv Oblast of northern Ukraine along the Oster River. It is situated approximately 116 km (72 mi) north-east of the national capital, Kyiv.
The city serves as the administrative center of Nizhyn Raion and hosts the administration of the Nizhyn urban hromada. Historically, Nizhyn was a major city within the Chernigov Governorate. As of recent data, the city has a population of 65,830.
