Mwanza City, commonly referred to by residents as Rock City, is a port city located on the southern shore of Lake Victoria in north-western Tanzania. It serves as the capital of the Mwanza Region and is administratively divided into two municipal districts: Ilemela and Nyamagana.
As Tanzania's second largest city after Dar es Salaam, Mwanza has an urban population of 1,104,521. Within the Lake Victoria basin, it ranks as the second largest city in terms of population size, following Kampala, Uganda. It is also the fifth largest city within the East African community.
