Shirati is a town located in the Rorya District of North Mara, Tanzania. Situated on the shore above Lake Victoria near the border with Kenya, it serves as the northernmost town at that international boundary. The town has an estimated population of approximately 100,000 residents.
The demographic makeup of Shirati is primarily composed of Dholuo-speaking Nilotes. Additionally, the area is home to Suba people, a subbranch of Bantu communities who have adopted Luo customs, language, and practices. The town also hosts a substantial number of Westerners who work at the Kabwana mission, which translates from Luo as "the white people's home."
