Uvinza is one of the eight administrative districts located in the Kigoma Region of Tanzania. The district is named in honor of the Vinza people, who historically inhabited the western portion of the area as a kingdom.
The region is bordered by several other districts: Kigoma and Kigoma-Ujiji to the northwest, Kasulu to the north, Mpanda to the south, and Kaliua to the east. Lake Tanganyika forms the district's western boundary. A notable geographical feature of southern Uvinza District is the Mahale Mountains National Park, which is recognized for hosting both chimpanzees and lions within the same habitat.
