Mkuranga is a town located in Tanzania that serves as the administrative capital of the Mkuranga District. The district is one of eight administrative divisions within the Pwani Region and covers a total land area of approximately 2,827 km2 (1,092 sq mi), a size comparable to the land area of Samoa.
The district is bordered by the Kigamboni, Temeke, and Ilala districts of Dar es Salaam to the north, Kibiti District to the south, Kisarawe District to the west, and the Mafia Channel to the east. Notable geographical features include the Vikindu Forest Reserve, which is recognized as one of the last remaining coastal forests in East Africa.
According to a 2016 report by the Tanzania National Bureau of Statistics, the population of Mkuranga District was 243,062, an increase from 222,921 recorded in 2012.
