New Taipei City is a special municipality located in northern Taiwan. It serves as the most populous city in Taiwan and the ROC-controlled territories, with an estimated population of 4,004,367 as of January 2023. Geographically, it is the second largest special municipality by area, surpassed only by Kaohsiung.
The city completely encloses the capital city of Taipei and shares borders with Keelung to the northeast, Yilan County to the southeast, and Taoyuan to the southwest. Banqiao District serves as the municipal seat and is the city's largest commercial area.
