Kaohsiung, officially known as Kaohsiung City, is a special municipality located in southern Taiwan. It serves as the largest city in the region and ranks as the third most populous city in the country, with a population of approximately 2.72 million people.
The city covers an area of 2,952 km² (1,140 mi²), making it the largest city in Taiwan by land area. Its geography is diverse, ranging from a coastal urban center to the rural Yushan Range.
