Point Fortin, officially known as the Republic Borough of Point Fortin, is the smallest borough in Trinidad and Tobago. It is situated in southwestern Trinidad within the historic county of Saint Patrick, located approximately 32 km (20 mi) southwest of San Fernando.
The town developed into a major oil-producing center following the discovery of petroleum in the area in 1906. Significant growth occurred between the 1940s and 1980s due to the oil industry, leading to its elevation to borough status in 1980. While the town experienced an economic recession in the 1980s following the end of the oil boom and the closure of its refinery, the economy received a boost in the late 1990s with the construction of a Liquefied Natural Gas plant by Atlantic LNG.
