Piparo is a village located in Central Trinidad on the southern edge of the Central Range. It is characterized by its rural setting and has been the site of several significant historical and cultural events.
The village is notable for hosting a large mud volcano eruption on February 22, 1997, which covered an area of 2.5 km² and displaced 31 families; the volcano remains active today. Additionally, Piparo served as the base of operations for notorious drug lord Dole Chadee, who was executed in 1999. It is also recognized as the home where musician Ras Shorty I lived during a self-imposed break from the soca world to develop jamoo, a fusion of soca and gospel music.
