The Borough of Chaguanas is the largest municipality and fastest-growing town in Trinidad and Tobago. It is situated in west-central Trinidad, positioned south of Port of Spain and north of Couva and San Fernando. The town takes its name from the indigenous tribe that originally settled in the area.
Chaguanas expanded significantly due to its proximity to the Woodford Lodge sugar refinery. While it remained a minor town for much of its history, it experienced rapid growth starting in the 1980s as it became a destination for bargain shopping and moderately priced housing. This development has led to a dramatic increase in property values within the region.
