Başkale is a district and municipality located in the Van Province of Turkey. Established as a municipality in 1937, it covers a total area of 2,727 km². As of 2022, the district has a recorded population of 44,168.
The local government of Başkale is currently led by Erkan Acar, who was elected as mayor in March 2019 representing the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP).
