The village of Çaykara is positioned at an elevation of approximately 300 meters within a V-shaped valley along the Solaklı River in the Pontic Mountains. The surrounding district features peaks reaching elevations exceeding 3,300 meters. Historically, the western half of the neighboring İkizdere district was also considered part of this same administrative and cultural region.

The geography of the district is characterized by large areas of old-growth temperate broadleaf and mixed forest. As the elevation increases toward the mountain peaks, these forests gradually transition into alpine tundra.
