Malazgirt, historically known as Manzikert, is a town located in the Muş Province of Turkey. It serves as the administrative seat of the Malazgirt District, which had a total population of 42,135 according to the 2024 census. The local government is currently led by Ahmet Kenan Türker, who was elected mayor in the 2024 Turkish local elections.
The town is primarily populated by Kurds with a small number of Islamized Armenians. It is historically significant as the site of the 1071 Battle of Manzikert, fought between the Byzantine Empire and the Seljuk Turks. Additionally, the city features the Malazgirt Castle, a fortification for which both the Byzantine Empire and the Seljuk state engaged in numerous conflicts.
