Kahramanmaraş, historically known as Marash and Germanicea, is a city located in the Mediterranean region of Turkey. It serves as the administrative center of the Kahramanmaraş province and is situated on a plain at the foot of Mount Ahır.
The city was officially renamed from Maraş to Kahramanmaraş in 1973. The addition of the prefix "kahraman" was intended to commemorate the Battle of Marash.
