Erzincan, historically known as Yerznka, serves as the capital of Erzincan Province located in eastern Turkey. It is situated in a region surrounded by several neighboring cities, including Erzurum, Sivas, Tunceli, Bingöl, Elazığ, Malatya, Gümüşhane, Bayburt, and Giresun.

The city's population is primarily composed of Turkish Sunnis, with a Kurdish Alevi minority. It functions as a regional administrative center within the eastern portion of the country.
