Bingöl, formerly known as Çapakçur before 1944, is a city located in eastern Turkey. It serves as the administrative seat for both Bingöl Province and Bingöl District. As of 2022, the city has a recorded population of 133,423.
The city is situated within a predominantly Kurdish-speaking region and is known by the name Çewlik in Kurdish. It is recognized by scholars as a significant site for the formation of Kurmanji Kurdish and Kird/Zaza identities.
