Eleskirt

Eleşkirt is a town located in the Ağrı Province of Turkey. It serves as the administrative seat of the Eleşkirt District, with a recorded population of 10,191 as of 2021.

The name Eleşkirt is derived from Alashkert, which was the valley's former administrative center but is currently known as the village of Toprakkale. Historical records indicate that the area was referred to as Vagharshakert during the medieval period. During the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–1878, the local population was composed of approximately half Armenians and the remainder Kurds and Turks.
