Tarf, also known by its Bayer designation Beta Cancri, is the brightest star located within the zodiacal constellation of Cancer. It is visible to the naked eye with an apparent visual magnitude of +3.5 and an absolute magnitude of -1.2.
Located approximately 303 light-years from the Solar System, the star is currently drifting away at a line-of-sight velocity of 23 km/s. Astronomers have identified an exoplanet, designated Beta Cancri b, which is believed to be orbiting the star.
