Gabès is the capital city of the Gabès Governorate in Tunisia. It is situated on the coast of the Gulf of Gabès and ranks as the sixth largest city in the country, with a population of 167,863. The city is located approximately 327 km southeast of the capital, Tunis, and 113 km from Sfax.
The city lies at the delta of the Wadi Qabis, which serves as its primary water source. This river originates about 10 kilometers upstream at Ras al-Oued.
