Türkmenabat is the second-largest city in Turkmenistan and serves as the administrative center of the Lebap Province. Formerly known as Çärjew, the city underwent a period of renaming between 1924 and 1927, during which it was designated as Leninsk to honor Vladimir Lenin.
As of 2022, Türkmenabat had a population of approximately 231,000 people. It remains a significant urban center within the country's administrative structure.
