Daşoguz is a city located in northern Turkmenistan and serves as the administrative capital of the Daşoguz Province. It is situated near the national border, which lies approximately 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) from the city's edge.
The city has undergone several name changes over time; it was formerly known as Tashauz until 1992 and was subsequently referred to as Dashkhovuz until 1999 before adopting its current name.
