Arkadag

Arkadag is a smart city located in southern Turkmenistan. It serves as the regional capital of Ahal Province, a status it officially assumed on December 20, 2022. The city was established as a largely greenfield development beginning in 2019 with an initial budget of $1.5 billion.

The city is named in honor of former president Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, who is the father of current president Serdar Berdimuhamedow and is officially entitled Arkadag. Uniquely among Turkmen cities, Arkadag is designated by law as a "city of state importance."
