Ghafurov

Tajikistan

Ghafurov is a town located in the Ghafurov district of the Sughd Region in Tajikistan. It serves as a populated center with a recorded population of 20,600, an increase from the 18,900 residents reported during the 1989 census.

The town was officially established in 1965 and was originally known by the name Sovietabad. In 1978, it was renamed Ghafurov to honor Bobojon Ghafurovich Ghafurov, who served as the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Tajikistan from 1946 to 1956.
