Bokhtar is a city located in southwestern Tajikistan. It serves as the administrative capital of the Khatlon region and holds the distinction of being the largest city in southern Tajikistan.
The city has been known by several previous names, including Qurghonteppa, Kurganteppa, and Kurgan-Tyube. Geographically, it is situated approximately 100 kilometres (62 mi) south of the national capital, Dushanbe, and 150 kilometres (93 mi) north of Kunduz, Afghanistan.
