Ko Samui, also known as Koh Samui or simply Samui, is an island located off the east coast of Thailand. It is situated within the Chumphon Archipelago and is part of the Surat Thani Province. Although it remains geographically tied to the province, Ko Samui was granted municipal status in 2012, allowing it to be locally self-governing.
Covering an area of 228.7 square kilometres (88.3 sq mi), Ko Samui is the second largest island in Thailand, following Phuket. The island serves as a significant tourist destination, hosting approximately 2.7 million visitors in 2018.
