Thon Buri

Thailand

Thon Buri is an area located in modern-day Bangkok, Thailand. Historically, it served as a significant location on the right (west) bank at the mouth of the Chao Phraya River during the era of the Ayutthaya Kingdom.

The name Thon Buri is derived from the loanword "thon" (ธน), which comes from the Pali word dhána meaning "wealth," and "buri" (บุรี), which stems from púra, meaning "fortress." This reflects its historical role as an important garrison town. The full formal name of the area is Thon Buri Si Mahasamut.
