Bang Rak is one of the fifty districts (khet) located in Bangkok, Thailand. It is situated on the eastern bank of the Chao Phraya River, positioned beyond Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem, which served as the boundary for the old city.
The area originated from riverside settlements that date back to before the foundation of the city. During the second half of the nineteenth century and the early twentieth century, Bang Rak expanded inland following the construction of new roads and canals. This development attracted communities of expatriates and transformed the district into a major commercial hub.
