Mae Sot

Mae Sot is a city located in western Thailand within Tak Province. It is situated approximately 87 km from the city of Tak and 492 km from Bangkok. The city serves as the district headquarters for Mae Sot District and functions as the primary gateway between Thailand and Myanmar, sharing a direct border with the neighboring country to the west.

The city is characterized by its role as a significant trade hub, notably known for the commerce of gems and teak. Due to its location on the border, Mae Sot has a substantial population of Burmese migrants and refugees. Additionally, the area has gained notoriety for involvement in black market services, including human trafficking and illicit drugs.
