Lampang, also known as Nakhon Lampang to distinguish it from the surrounding province, is a city located in northern Thailand. It serves as the capital of both Lampang province and the Mueang Lampang district. Historically, the city has been referred to by the traditional names Wiang Lakon and Khelang Nakhon.
The city functions as a significant regional trading and transportation center. Geographically, it is situated approximately 601 km (373 mi) north of Bangkok and 101 km (63 mi) southeast of Chiang Mai. It ranks as the third largest city in northern Thailand.
