Sokodé is the second largest city in Togo, located in the center of the country at approximately 339 kilometres north of the capital, Lomé. Situated between the Mo and Mono rivers, it serves as the seat of both the Tchaoudjo Prefecture and the Centrale Region.
The city functions as a primary commercial hub for the surrounding agricultural areas. It is characterized by its multi-ethnic and multi-religious population, which is dominated by Islam. The ethnic majority in Sokodé are the Kotokolis, who live alongside various other groups within the urban center.
