Abeche

Chad

Abéché is a city located in central-eastern Chad and serves as the capital of the Ouaddaï Region. It is situated approximately 749 kilometres northeast of the national capital, N'Djamena, and 164 kilometres northwest of Adre on the border with Sudan. Surrounded by savanna, it is recognized as one of the largest cities in the country.

The city possesses a rich Islamic heritage and is positioned along the trans-Saharan trade route. It functions as an important cattle raising centre and hosts the nation's principal market for rugs and camel exports. As of 2012, the population of Abéché was recorded at 76,492 people.
