Masyaf

Syria

Masyaf is a city located in northwestern Syria. It serves as the administrative center of the Masyaf District within the Hama Governorate.

The city is characterized by its religiously diverse population, which included approximately 22,000 Ismailis, Alawites, and Christians as of 2004. It is notably recognized for its large medieval castle, which historically functioned as the headquarters for the Nizari Ismailis and their elite Assassins unit.
