Manbij is a city located in the northeast of the Aleppo Governorate in northern Syria. It is situated approximately 30 kilometers west of the Euphrates River.
According to the 2004 census, the city has a population of nearly 100,000 people. The demographic makeup of Manbij is largely Arab, though it includes minorities such as Kurds, Turkmen, Circassians, and Chechens. Many residents of the city practice Naqshbandi Sufism.
