Saidnaya, also transliterated as Saydnaya or Seidnaya, is a city located in the mountains of Syria. It sits at an elevation of 1,500 meters (4,900 feet) above sea level, approximately 27 kilometers (17 miles) north of Damascus.
The city is primarily known as the home of a Greek Orthodox monastery, which tradition holds was founded by Byzantine emperor Justinian I. This site remains a significant religious location where an icon of the Virgin Mary is revered by Christians to this day. According to the 2004 census conducted by the Syria Central Bureau of Statistics, the city had a population of 5,194.
