Deir ez-Zor is a city located in eastern Syria on the banks of the Euphrates River. It serves as the capital of the Deir ez-Zor Governorate and is situated approximately 450 km (280 mi) to the northeast of Damascus, the nation's capital.
The city holds significant geographical importance as the largest city in eastern Syria and ranks as the seventh largest city in the country.
