Al-Malikiyah, also known as Derik, is a city located in northeastern Syria. It serves as the administrative center of a district within the Al-Hasakah Governorate. The city is situated approximately 20 km west of the Tigris River, which marks the triple border between Syria, Turkey, and Iraq.
The town is the seat of an administrative subdistrict consisting of 108 localities with a combined population of 125,000. While census data from 2004 recorded a population of approximately 26,311 residents, other estimates suggest the city's population reached 39,000 by 2024. The area is inhabited by diverse ethnic groups, including Kurds, Assyrians, Arabs, and Armenians.
Geographically, Al-Malikiyah is situated in a region where the Syrian Democratic Council convenes. It remains a significant administrative hub for the northeastern corner of the country.
