Antiguo Cuscatlán, colloquially known as Antiguo, is a municipality located in the La Libertad department of El Salvador. Its eastern tip sits within the San Salvador Department as part of the Metropolitan Area of San Salvador, situated southwest of San Salvador and southeast of Santa Tecla. According to the 2020 census, the municipality had a population of 47,956.
The name Antiguo Cuscatlán translates to "Old Jeweled City," derived from the Spanish word for ancient and the Nahuat word for jeweled city. Historically, the site served as the capital of the Pipil, also known as the Cuzcatecs, prior to the Spanish conquest of the New World.
