Paramaribo is the capital and largest city of Suriname, situated on the banks of the Suriname River within the Paramaribo District. Locally nicknamed Foto, it serves as the primary urban center for the nation.
The city has a population of approximately 252,581 people according to 2025 estimates, which accounts for nearly half of Suriname's total population. Its historic inner city was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2002.
